RandomControl updates ArionFX for Photoshop v3.0.5

rendererRandomControl, the developer of Arion a physically based CPU & GPU render engine, announced the relaease of a new version of ArionFX for Photoshop. ArionFX for Photoshop is a versatile tool that offers a variety of key HDR image processing algorithms designed to function in floating-point 32-bit HDR data. ArionFX allows the implementing inside the existing pipeline and so keeping a linear workflow. The plugin brings a new advanced HDR tonemapping, firefly removal, glare, bloom and so on. Between the most noticeable postproduction options available inside ArionFX belongs the possibility of removing speckles and on the other hand adding some grain. The HDR despeckler tool features a high-performance removal algorithm which works similarly to Photoshop's native Dust and scratches filter, but in 32-bit HDR. HDR film grain adds what his name stands for, a fancy film grain.

Some of the features included inside ArionFX

  • HDR vignetting - Vignetting can help make your images pop by forcing the center of interest to the middle of the image.
  • HDR color fringe - ArionFX simulates the very well-known chromatic aberration of optical lenses just right.
  • HDR bloom - Bloom simulates tiny particles in the air that catch light and produce a soft halo around bright spots.
  • HDR glare - Glare adds nice and eye-candy streaks of diffracted light to the bright areas of your image.
  • HDR tone-mapping - ArionFX provides a variety of tonemapping operators; both popular algorithms, and algorithms developed in-house. Each of these has a characteristic behavior, offering great flexibility and infinite looks.
  • HDR sharpening - HDR sharpening provides a color-preserving way to enhance the details of photographs and computer-generated images. Sharpenig works in full HDR meaning it will work harder on brighter parts of the image.

New features in the version 3.0.5

Multi-layered OpenEXR importer

RandomControl added a new multi-layer OpenEXR file reader. From a certain version Photoshop can natively open .exr files, but he ignores all the extra channels beyond RGB and Alpha. Most modern render engines (Arion in particular) output a plethora of AOVs in the form of EXR channels. With the new version ArionFX for Photoshop can read -all- the channels contained in OpenEXR files, and conveniently lay them out as Photoshop layers.

Alpha channel options

Upon opening an image a new popup window will show up with options to embed the alpha as opacity and un-multiply the RGB layers using alpha in addition to the default behavior where the alpha channel is loaded as a separate layer.

Arion G-Buffer (.agb) importer

The .agb format is Arion’s proprietary file format that outputs the raw 32-bit floating-point, uncompressed and multi-layered G-Buffer as stored in the GPU during render. It is a completely lossless format (with no alteration on the original color range) that Arion users can use as an alternative to OpenEXR.
