Digital-Tutors revealed a preview of an upcoming training called „Creating Game Characters with ZBrush and TopoGun Tutorial“. It is their first tutorial covering TopoGun – a powerful topology tool used in the character creation workflow. It teaches you how to use ZBrush and TopoGun to convert a high resolution character into a lower resolution game-type model. Sculpting applications are great for creating highly-detailed models, but to be able to rig, animate or integrate these models into a game engine, artists first have to convert the model to a much lower resolution. TopoGun is a great tool for taking detailed meshes and allowing us to very intuitively redraw this new topology.

The last issue of 3D Artist is out and includes many great content featuring how to create hard surfaces using Booleans in GroBoto, tips for texturing, the art of Halo, Aardman Animations’ Arthur Christmas and more. The issue is full packed with 32 pages of tutorials like creating a character from concept using ZBrush and SoftImage, exploring a brand new way of creating hard surfaces using Booleans in GroBoto and constructing a sci-fi landscape with help from the experts. We’ve also got the second and final part of our Rat Rod tutorial; Alex Villarreal talks textures, lighting and rendering your kickass hot rod.
